アータンド
Set in Oharano in Kyoto's Nishikyo Ward, stained glass studio and cafe Artand serves reservation-only salad bowls, croque monsieurs, and black sesame Basque cheesecake in a tranquil, light-filled space.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Located near Oharano Shrine, Artand combines an artisan stained glass studio with a cafe. Colorful glass creations and antique furnishings catch the daylight streaming through the windows, creating an unhurried setting for a meal or an afternoon tea.
For a satisfying midday meal, the cafe serves a salad bowl lunch that requires advance booking. Arranged in a generous bowl, fresh greens are paired with several rotating deli items, such as chicken seasoned with ume plum and shiso, lemony cabbage salad, and carrot râpées, making for a vegetable-forward dish that remains thoroughly hearty. Paired with a warm, chunky soup featuring seasonal produce like sweet potato, it makes for a comforting lunch. When a lighter bite is in order, there is also a croque monsieur featuring soft bread smothered in melted cheese and white sauce.
Dessert reflects the studio's distinctive creative touch. Conceived as a dark-hued sweet inspired by the new moon, the black sesame Basque cheesecake layers nutty toasted sesame with anko sweet bean paste, lending the rich cake a nuanced Japanese inflection. Other options suit varied cravings, from an azuki red bean chiffon cake with its gentle sweetness to a coffee parfait stacked with coffee jelly, chiffon cake, cafe au lait ice cream, and crisp tuile cookies.
Artisan accessories and sundries are also on display, giving guests the option to pair a meal with a hands-on stained glass workshop. On-site free parking makes the shop a convenient stop while exploring or driving through Oharano in Nishikyo Ward.
